Delivery of official documents is a service provided by central government. Each year, we deliver thousands of official documents throughout the Netherlands. You can recognise our drivers by their vehicles and uniforms, which bear the central government logo. They can also identify themselves to you by showing their official central government security pass.

A court judgment
A request to provide a DNA sample
A request to provide a witness statement
A driving licence
Proving your identity for delivery
Generally speaking, you will not be asked to show an identity document to take delivery of an official document. The driver may ask for your date of birth in order to verify your identity. If the driver is not entirely sure that you are the intended recipient, they may ask to see an identity document.
Good to know
Our drivers only deliver official documents. They do not have any information about the contents of the documents.
Delivery of official documents
You will not be notified in advance that you are going to receive an official document. Senders of official documents do not ask us to contact recipients in advance.
Not home? Make an appointment for delivery
If you are not at home when a driver arrives to deliver an official document, they will leave a note. You can usually make a new delivery appointment via our website. When you make the appointment, we will ask for your phone number so that we can contact you if the delivery is going to be delayed.
No delivery appointment? Collect the official document yourself
If you receive a notification that you can collect your official document, the collection locations will be shown in the notification. Only the addressee is allowed to collect the document. You must present a valid identity document to collect the document. This also applies to children. You are not required to collect the official document, but it is your last opportunity to receive it.
Frequently asked questions
An official document is a document issued to you by central government. It is often a court document such as a summons, a court judgment or a request to provide a DNA sample or witness statement. A driving licence is also an official document. An official document may be issued by the Public Prosecution Service (OM), the Central Judicial Collection Agency (CJIB), the Supreme Court or the Central Office for Motor Vehicle Driver Testing (CBR), for example.
Neither the driver delivering your document nor the central government logistics service (Rijkslogistiek) have information about what is in your official document. For examples of official documents and what they may contain, see the answer to ‘What is an official document?’ above.
An official document contains important information, such as the date and time you are expected in court, or the contents of a court judgment. That means it’s always important to read official documents carefully.
If the driver asks you to show a valid identity document, you can use:
A passport issued by the Netherlands or another country
A Dutch identity card
An identity document issued by the Netherlands to foreign nationals and bearing your name and nationality, such as:
a residence document
an alien’s identity card
an identity document for privileged persons
A driving licence issued by the Netherlands or another EU country
No, that is not possible.
Your official document will not be delivered to your door if:
a gate or barrier blocks access to your address; or
the road is impassable or unpaved, or the address is unclear.
For reasons of safety and information security, drivers are not allowed to leave their vehicle for a long period of time or be too far away from their vehicle.
Enter your phone number so the driver can call you to arrange a place to hand over your official document, such as the entrance to a holiday park or the start of the unpaved road.
In some cases, it’s not possible to make a delivery appointment anymore. For example, if:
the legal time limit for receiving the document has expired; or
you have already received notice to collect your official document.
Please note: official documents sent by the Supreme Court and documents addressed to a legal person cannot be collected. After three unsuccessful attempts to deliver them, these documents will be returned to the sender.
On the front of this form you can see whether you can collect your official document, and if so, when and where. You must bring a valid identity document with you to collect your document.
No. Only the addressee can collect the official document.
If you don’t collect the official document, it will be returned to the sender.
If the document is addressed to someone who does not live at your address or to someone you don’t know, let us know. We will return the document to the sender. Contact us in one of the following ways:
By email: mijnrijksdocumenten@rijksoverheid.nl
By phone: 0800 29 29 201 (not available from outside the Netherlands)
If you regularly receive post for someone you don't know, inform your municipality.
Yes, you can. Via the website MijnOverheid.nl you can change your preferences so that you will receive messages and documents from the Public Prosecution Service digitally.
To do this, go to the ‘Settings’ page of your MijnOverheid account and tick ‘Public Prosecution Service’ (Openbare Ministerie).
Check carefully to see if you have entered the information exactly as it is shown in the missed delivery form. If your house number includes a letter or additional number, try adding it without a space or dash. If you are still having issues, contact us.
You can only collect your official document at the address shown on your missed delivery form.
